COMPETITORS are already getting revved up for the Burt Munro Challenge.
That’s the feeling from organisers in the countdown to the third annual Burt Munro Challenge, in and around Invercargill, from November 28th to 30th, 2008.
Registrations, compared with the same time last year, have increased, leaving organisers confident of a final turnout that will more than match the 2007 challenge when more than 2000 motorcyclists took part.
“And we’re again expecting riders from overseas, and not just throughout New Zealand, such is the popularity of our event and the standing it is already held in after just two years,” Southland Motorcycle Club president, Dave Morris, said.
An extra drawcard next month will be the addition of quad bikes in the twilight beach racing, which will launch the weekend’s events at Oreti Beach on Friday, November 28th, from 6pm.
Another new feature set to attract more entries will be the appearance of sidecars at the Wyndham street race and the races at Teretonga.
“And anyone keen to be part of this year’s Burt Munro Challenge can register online, which will streamline the entry and confirmation process,” said Mr Morris, who will also compete.
The registration website: www.burtmunrochallenge.com provides all pre-rally information delivery and features a programme of the weekend’s events, forms, merchandise prices and pre-ordering processes.
The website also contains images from the last year’s event, feedback, accommodation and travel options, as well as maps for the challenge, which is again being organised by the Southland Motorcycle Club with support from Venture Southland.
Oreti Park, on the outskirts of Invercargill, will again be transformed into the central hub for all Burt Munro Challenge events.
The rally site facilities will include food stalls, rally merchandise, an enormous marquee equipped with bar facilities and a stage for live entertainment from the Recliner Rockers and John Moon on Friday and Saturday nights.
