VMCC Winter Roadrace Series

The VMCC winter roadrace series round 4 at Manfield was called off due to flooding of the track.

It rained so hard in practice and during the first few races that parts of the circuit were entirely under water. Riders were reduced to ‘circulating’ rather than racing and the issue of rider safety forced the club to cancel the round. No points were awarded for the races completed and at 1pm the meeting was abandoned.

The Random Riders

The Story so far.

The Random Riders (R&R) Tokoroa, 3rd annual, 2007 Poker Run was a great success. The weather drying up on the Friday and staying dry for the Run on the Saturday. Bikes coming from all directions and as far away as Whangarei etc. The 200 odd bikes left from the Trees Tavern in Tokoroa, headed off to the Benneydale Pub for their second card, then on to Taumarunui for 3rd card, and a great feed put on by one of Taumarunui clubs. With full belly’s and a cup of tea or two (yea right) then through Western Bay’s road to Tihoi for a rest, 4th card and spot prizes (thanks to all pubs for spot prizes etc). Then the riders continued on to the Bull Ring to the end of the 300 odd Km ride. Then games, helmet toss, tug of war etc. Then there was prize giving with heaps of prizes !!!! Then a great night of partying thanks to the Tauranga based band, “Second Sens”, come Sunday a hardy breakfast a clean up and everyone off home, with a smile on there dial, saddlebags full of prizes and slightly fuzzy heads (its those cups of tea) and all ready talking about the 2008 Run. Thanks heaps to all our sponsors and there were plenty of them. Hope to see you all here (all bikes welcome) on the 11th October, 2008 for sign on at Trees Tavern Highway 1 Tokoroa between 9.30am and 11am, Till then keep the shiny side up and go hard!!!

Women’s European Trial Championship

Women’s European Trial Championship
Seventh consecutive continental title for Laia Sanz, winner of all three championship events.

Tanval in the Czech Republic, 16.08.2008. Laia Sanz on a Montesa-HRC Cota 4RT has won the Women’s European Trial Championship for seventh consecutive time. A
competition that finished this Saturday with the third and final scoring event. The Montesa rider won outright on terrain made more difficult by rain. The multiple champion practically left the title decided at the end of the first lap, without penalizations and with a ten points advantage over her closest rival, finishing off the event with just a single point in the second lap. Laia Sanz has won all three championship events. The first, in March in Grasse, France, finishing with zero points and the second, at the end of July in Crodo Verbania, Italy, finishing with two points, twenty less than the next classified. With these two results, to retain the title it would have been enough to finish fourth.

Laia Sanz: “Rain complicated zones that would have been much less difficult if they were dry. In these conditions, and despite the greater risk of making mistakes, I felt calm and made what I consider was my best Trial of this season, adding to my satisfaction for this seventh title. I’ve now achieved one of my two great aims for this year. The other is obviously to regain the World Championship. I feel as fit as possible and the results of these last two events in the European championship are also good psychological encouragement”.

The seven times continental champion was born in Corbera de Llobregat in Barcelona on December 11th, 1985 and has been in the Repsol-Montesa HRC team since 2004. Her next objective is to conquer what would be her eighth World title, breaking her seven title tie with two great legends of this motorcycling specialty: Jordi Tarrés and Dougie Lampkin. Having won the opening event of this competition in March at Ettelbruck, Luxemburg, Laia Sanz will have two opportunities to achieve her goal: on September 20th and 26th at Castellolí in Barcelona) and at Sant Julià de Lòria in Andorra), respectively.
